Tesla Powerwall 3 Rebate: What It Was and Where Things Stand Now

Tesla Powerwall 3 Rebate: What It Was and Where Things Stand Now

Last updated August 2026. Tesla’s Powerwall 3 rebate promotion closed to new orders on March 31, 2026, and is no longer available. This post is kept for reference and for the Powerwall 3 specifications below, which are still current.

A home battery stores excess solar energy, provides backup power during outages, and can help lower your utility bills. For a stretch of late 2025 and early 2026, Tesla ran a rebate promotion that reduced the cost of adding one.

That promotion has ended. If you are weighing a Powerwall 3 now, Saguaro Solar Electric & Roofing brings over a decade of experience in Tesla battery installation in Tucson and the surrounding areas, and we will quote your project on its current numbers rather than an expired offer. What the Tesla Powerwall 3 Rebate Offered

Tesla offered a rebate of up to $1,000 on Powerwall 3 and Powerwall 3 Expansion installations, paid as $500 per unit for up to two units per Tesla Account and installation address.

How the Rebate Worked

Homeowners had to order during the promotion window, complete installation, connection, and registration within the specified dates, then submit a rebate request through Tesla’s rebate portal.

The guidelines from Tesla were:

  • Order Powerwall 3 or Powerwall 3 Expansion between November 1, 2025, and March 31, 2026.
  • Register for the rebate through the rebate portal by March 31, 2026.
  • Have your Powerwall(s) installed, connected, and registered between January 1, 2026, and September 30, 2026.
  • Submit the rebate request through the rebate portal by September 30, 2026.

If You Ordered Before the Deadline

The ordering and registration window closed on March 31, 2026, so new orders no longer qualify. If you ordered and registered before that date, your installation, connection, and registration must be complete and your final rebate request submitted through Tesla’s portal by September 30, 2026. Check the portal directly for the status of an existing claim.

Current Incentives on Battery Storage

Arizona’s Residential Solar Energy Credit is worth 25% of system cost up to $1,000, and the state’s solar equipment sales tax exemption and energy equipment property tax exemption both still apply. The 30% federal residential credit (Section 25D) ended for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025. We walk you through exactly what your project qualifies for when we quote it.

How Rebates Were Issued

Once a system was installed, connected, and registered, the homeowner submitted the rebate request through Tesla’s portal. Tesla verified the information and, once approved, issued the rebate within 30 business days as a Virtual Visa® Reward Card sent to the homeowner’s email.

Why Consider a Tesla Powerwall 3?

Powerwall 3 is Tesla’s newest fully integrated home battery system, designed to deliver whole-home backup, seamless energy management, and maximum efficiency. It can store excess solar energy, power your home during outages, and reduce reliance on the grid.

With a built-in solar inverter, higher power output, and scalable design, Powerwall 3 supports today’s energy needs while allowing room for future expansion.

Once installed, you can monitor and customize energy usage through the Tesla app to help lower utility bills and increase long-term energy independence.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Specs

Tesla Powerwall 3 delivers a powerful combination of efficiency, durability, and scalability, making it one of the most advanced home battery systems available today.

Below is a detailed breakdown of its key specifications to help you understand exactly what this next-generation system offers.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Dimensions

Powerwall 3 features a compact, streamlined design with a clean modern look that integrates easily into most homes.

The Tesla Powerwall 3 dimensions are approximately 43.5 inches (1,105 mm) high, 24 inches (609 mm) wide, and 7.6 inches (193 mm) deep. The unit weighs around 287 lbs. (130 kg), and the installed unit including the bracket and cover weighs about 291.2 lbs. (132 kg).

These dimensions allow for a compact wall-mounted design but require specific clearances for airflow and access, with minimum front clearance of 36 inches.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Capacity

The Tesla Powerwall 3 offers 13.5 kWh energy capacity per unit, providing 11.5 kW of continuous power and a high 97.5% solar-to-grid efficiency with its integrated inverter. It can support larger solar systems and is scalable up to four units for more storage.

With a robust usable energy capacity and higher continuous power output, Powerwall 3 can support more household appliances simultaneously, even during outages.

A single unit provides whole-home backup for many homes, and additional units can be added to increase storage, surge capability, and overall system resilience.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Battery System Compatibility

Tesla Powerwall 3 is highly compatible with most solar setups, working with many third-party inverters (up to 7.6kW AC for single units) and existing systems, but it does not directly integrate with Powerwall 2 or Powerwall+ systems.

It requires Tesla’s own solar inverter for optimal DC integration, though it supports AC-coupled solar, and you can add Powerwall 3 Expansion units to boost capacity.

It can even work without a solar setup, providing seamless backup power by detecting grid outages and automatically becoming the home’s main power source.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Warranty

Tesla provides a strong warranty designed to ensure reliable long-term performance.

Powerwall 3 is covered for 10 years with guaranteed energy retention, giving homeowners confidence that their system will continue delivering efficient storage, dependable backup power, and predictable savings over the life of the battery.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Price

The exact Tesla Powerwall 3 installation cost will vary depending on your installer, system design, and whether additional equipment is required.

The unit itself costs approximately $9,300. With installation, the price is roughly $15,400 before rebates and local incentives. Each Powerwall 3 Expansion runs about $6,000.

Tesla Powerwall 3 Installation

Installing a Tesla Powerwall 3 begins with a site assessment and permitting before the physical install. Certified technicians determine the best location, secure necessary permits, and prepare your electrical system.

This pre-installation phase typically takes several weeks depending on local approvals.

On installation day, the physical setup usually takes a full day (with brief power interruption while wiring and connections are made), though total timelines from order to activation can span 6–8+ weeks once permitting and utility inspections are included.

After installation, inspectors verify compliance, and your system is connected and commissioned for use.

Tesla Powerwall Expansion Pack

The Tesla Powerwall 3 Expansion Pack is an add-on battery designed to increase the storage capacity of your Powerwall 3 system without requiring an additional inverter, making it a cost-effective way to grow your home energy storage.

Each Expansion unit adds 13.5 kWh of usable energy, and up to three Expansion units can be paired with a single Powerwall 3 for up to 40.5 kWh of extra capacity.

Expansion units must be connected to the main Powerwall 3 via a dedicated harness and are not field-serviceable.

These units enhance backup duration, support greater solar self-consumption, and integrate seamlessly through the Tesla app for monitoring and management.
